Alan has a keen eye for design and loves sports. Born in Hong Kong, Alan left for the United States during his teen years to pursue his dream of becoming a professional tennis player by attending a tennis academy, full time. His tennis achievements have earned him a full athletic scholarship to attend college, and during his freshman year, he discovered his innate talent and passion for architecture and design; his focus and drive have since shifted to architectural studies.
Alan received a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University, Graduate School of Architecture Preservation and Planning, in 2001, following a Bachelor of Design in Architectural Studies from the University of Florida in 1997. Prior to launching Red Studio, Alan worked in various New York and Hong Kong architecture firms for over 8 years completing projects in architectural design, residential interiors, commercial retail, F&B, and hospitality. Some prestigious and noteworthy projects include 59E59 theaters in New York City, POS housing project in Kraljevica, Croatia, and Venetian Cotai Parcel 2, Macau. Furthermore, he served as the project designer for Shangri-La’s resort project in Mactan, Philippines, the main point of contact for coordination of architecture, interiors, landscape and hardscape design. After studying and working abroad in the United States for 17 years, Alan returned to Hong Kong in late 2006, where he is now based. When not working on his design projects, he can most likely be found on a tennis court, golf driving range, or exploring some hiking trails.
Alan’s tasteful and distinctive approach to design has earned him international recognition from print publications such as Objekt International, Hinge, Index Architecture, 25 Apartments and Lofts Under 1000 Square Feet and others. Online recognition includes Dwell and Apartment Therapy.
